Start The New Year With Self-Care

You've probably spent the greater part of the past few months running around getting ready for the holidays and everything they entail: cooking, cleaning, hunting for the perfect presents. Despite your best efforts to give gifts to everyone on your list, there's one person you probably forgot: you.

That's right - you! It's so easy to put ourselves second (or third, or tenth!) when you have places to go, people to see, and things to do. With the new year upon us, it's the perfect time to make a resolution: Start taking care of yourself.

One of the best (and easiest!) ways to practice self-care? Look after your skin! It's wintertime, which means cold, nasty weather outside and dry, stale air inside. That's an equation for skin that needs some love.

We're here to help, as we carry an array of bath and body products made to help you look - and feel! - fantastic. Read on to learn more about some of our favorite products designed to pamper you, from three of our favorite brands.

"I think best in a hot bath, with my head tilted back and my feet up high."

- Elizabeth Jane Howard

Barr-Co

Barr-Co. is the brainchild of Kelley Hall-Barr and her husband John. Their eco-friendly bath and body products are made in the Midwest, with a nod to American history in their clean, classic packaging. What you'll really fall in love with, though? The incredible "Original Scent" - an beautiful blend of milk, oatmeal, vanilla and vetiver.

We carry several items from Barr-Co. - check out the gallery below to see some of our favorites!

Beekman 1802

There's a saying: "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." For Josh Kilmer-Purcell and his partner Brent Ridge, they made... well, a completely new life.

Both men were laid off within a month of each other during the 2008 recession, and so they made a decision: Their weekend getaway, the Beekman 1802 farm, would have to become a business. They "adopted" a local farmer and his herd of goats, and soon began to make cheese and soaps. As they learned the ropes of rural life from their neighbors, they transformed the community around them by bringing other farmers and craftspeople together to market their products. Their little village in upstate New York began to host seasonal festivals, which are now attended by thousands of visitors from around the globe.

Word began to spread, and Josh and Brent were given a show on the Cooking Channel - The Fabulous Beekman Boys - and also competed on and won CBS's The Amazing Race in 2012.

We love that their products are made from organic and botanical ingredients - and goat milk is as vitamin-rich as it is gentle on your skin. Here are some of our current favorites (we carry everything in this gallery!):

Formulary 55

Formulary 55 started in Cordelia Hill's Seattle kitchen back in the early 1990s - she made each and every bar of soap herself, and even made the paper the bars are wrapped in (!). The exceptional quality - and scent! - of her handiwork led to a store, several different product lines, and eventually their live-work compound in Pueblo, Colorado.

Each bar of soap is still handmade - there are just more hands on deck to help these days!

The scents are really the star of the show here, and the soaps, shea butter creme, and bath fizzies we carry are available in the below fragrances:

Bourbon & Vanilla: This scent is great for both men & women, with main notes of bourbon and Tahitian vanilla with a hint of musk and amber. Perfect if you like vanilla scents with a little extra “sexy” mixed in.

Fig Leaf: The tart bite of cranberries and the sweet, mild allure of fig, made even more striking by adding a smattering of blood orange and pink grapefruit notes to the mix.

La Nuit: Top notes of amber are combined with myrrh, vanilla, and Egyptian musk. French lavender is added to sweet up the mix. Very seductive and sophisticated.

Milk & Honey: Clean and sweet, this scent is perfect for both men and women.

Sea Salt & Lavender: Like fresh sea air! This perfumed soap combines crisp clean sea spray with the soothing essential oil of lavender.

Vintage Peony: The soft, velvety bouquet of bursting peonies is delicately laced with violet and honeysuckle and warmed with seductive amber and soft musk.
